100 ways to save the environment

heeiii guys, our world is getting hotter, isnt it ?
yes, as we know, we can feel the global warming effect now, however there is no act to stop or reduce it, or maybe we still getting confuse what we should do

The ice has been melting

“….An iceberg four times the size of Manhattan has broken off Greenland, creating plenty of room for global warming deniers to start their own country,” Mr. Markey said in a statement. “So far, 2010 has been the hottest year on record, and scientists agree Arctic ice is a canary in a coal mine that provides clear warnings on climate….”

That’s the statement which I take from JOHN COLLINS RUDOLF post about Iceberg as a Metaphor for Inaction.

Determine of that article, the effect of global warming is real for this part. As you can see, the biggest ice was melting and it will be a huge dangerous for us. Had you ever seen the day after tomorrow’s film? That film imagined of this cause but it wasn’t as dramatically as that film. The film showed that the ice was melting and it will bring a disaster, such as flood and it will unstable the nature. How can imagine the effect? Seriously I am afraid to imagine it :(

Save Our Planet, guys !

Ok, well then.. global warming isn’t stranger thing anymore, isn’t it ? so from now we have to adaption with this condition and avoid it as we can. Remember, we don’t own this world; we merely borrow it from our children’s children.

What we have to do?

v Adaptation

First thing, because the global warming has happened in this world, we have to adaptation for this changing’s world.

· Figure out the condition of weather and wind’s movement before we’ll do our activity such as sailing, flight, diving, hiking, etc.

· Adjustable the crop pattern which is following the season’s changing

· Don’t dig the slope land in the hill or slope of mountain that can make erosion

· Wary of the rise of the sea

· Make basin, pond as water reservoir and well as water infiltration

v Mitigation

Second thing, we have to prohibit several things that can reduce the effect and slow-moving of global warming.

· Save the energy, especially of using electricity such as use the lamp economical, reduce of watching the television, use the electric as wise as you can. And don’t forget turn off devices, for the example you can shut off your computer, laptop, including the monitor when not in use. The same goes for television, radios, and stereos. Conserve energy by turning them off not only putting them in sleep mode, because when you use sleep mode actually you still use the electricity. For the info, the more we use the electricity, the more we contribute to the CO2 emission that’s produced by the power plant. And power plants use fossil fuels-the major cause of global warming.

· Plant a tree. Trees not only can suck up carbon dioxide and make clean air for us to breathe but also their roots can hold the soil to avoid landslides. So guys let’s plant a tree, make our mother earth more greenly and not hot anymore.

· Use paper efficiently. Make sure you use paper efficiently by using both sides of the sheet. Recycle the papers and think twice if you want to throw it. For the info, it takes 24 trees to produce one ton of uncoated virgin (non-recycled) printing and office paper. Pretty along, right? Ever thought of how long it takes for a tree to grow?

· Ride your bike, walk or take public transportation. Using the motor vehicle is the most air-polluting act an average citizen can commit since 92% of CO2 in the air produced by motor vehicle using fossil fuel. As you know it can produce carbon dioxide and monoxide, nitrogen oxides and hydro carbon when it is burned. Moreover those contribute to the formation of acid rain and add to the greenhouse gasses that cause global warming. So guys, ride your bike, it’s fun and make you healthier right?

· Sort and reduce your garbage. Start sorting your trash. Divide them into wet and dry trash. Dry ones, such as paper plastic, glass and wet ones such as kitchen trash and organic trash. Furthermore, reduce your garbage by buying product with less packaging, especially those that are made of paper and plastic. Try to avoid buying stuff in Styrofoam containers, why? You can take a look at this one.

· Bring your own bag to shop. It takes 10-20 years to decompose the plastic bag. So guys, try to avoid using the plastic bag and changing it with cloth or recycled tote bags, it could be the good choice. As you can see, nowadays so many green tote bags that you can buy in the department stores. You can also make one yourself or even make money creating this kind of bags. Use some slogans about the environment or decorate your masterpieces with scraps of Indonesian traditional cloths to make them more attractive.

· Reducing the fuel. If you can’t avoid using your own vehicle when commuting, ask your friends to join you. This can help you save fuel and reduce carbon dioxide. The compounds of vehicle emissions, besides causing global warming, are also known to damage the lung tissues and can lead to and worsen respiratory diseases such as asthma, so carpool when you can, guys!

· Airs dry your clothes. Instead of using the dyer, line-dry your clothes, especially in the dry season when the sun shines brightly. Make good use of the biggest source of energy we have. It’s free. Besides, it helps reduce carbon dioxide.

· Consume organic food. For sure this kind of food is healthier not only for our body, but also for the earth. That’s because organic products don’t use chemicals that pollute water supply and soil.

· By joining organization to follow the activities that can reduce the global warming

· And so many things that you can do to save our mother earth guys. Maybe it is just a little thing that you can do but it give a lot to this beloved planet.

Greenhouse Effect

By the way do u know what the greenhouse mean? The green house effect is not caused by the existence of high rise buildings with glass panel? Hoho it’s sound silly guys.

Oke let discuss it in the right way, it has been called greenhouse effect because its structure like a small glass house used to grow plants all year long. Sunrays go through the panels of a greenhouse and the heat stays inside, warming the air, making it possible for plants to grow even winter. The earth has a layer of gasses that protects living things, known as the atmosphere. Here the gases of greenhouse:

  • CO2 – carbon dioxide
  • CH4 – methane
  • N2O - nitrous oxide
  • PFCs – perfluorocarbons
  • HFCs - hydrofluorocarbons

· SF6 – sulphur hexafluoride

That gases act like the glass panels of a greenhouse that trap the heat of sun. If it weren’t for these greenhouse gases, the earth’s temperature would be as low as minus 19 degrees Celsius.

In this case is obvious that the greenhouse effect is causing global warming.

Greenhouse gases are produced by nature. As you know, living things produce carbon dioxide during respiration, the result of which we see as breathing. Methane is found in large amounts in the earth’s crust, and is produced in the digestive process in animals like cows, sheep and other. Nature can handle whatever it produces. The thing is, nature is not the only one producing these gases. In fact, it is because of humans that concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has rapidly increased. The use of fossil fuels like gasoline contributes the most to the increase of greenhouse gases. Furthermore, or forests, which can absorb a lot of carbon dioxide and produces oxygen, are rapidly disappearing.

global warming

Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the earth’s oceans and atmosphere or in the other words the earth is getting warmer.

Can you feel that the earth is getting hotter? Research shows that for one thousand years before 1800, the earth’s temperature remained stable, yet in just 200 years it has increased 1 degree Celsius. The increase might seem very significant, but the effect cannot be taken lightly.

The increase has been predicted that it will continue. Furthermore, it can cause and, to some extent, has caused the arctic and antarctic ice to melt, which in turn causes floods to low-lying areas. Have you noticed that everywhere in the world there have been more and more extreme weather events such as storms, hurricanes, long drought and very bad winter? But that’s not all. Warmer temperatures can also lead to the extinction of certain species. For example, a good number of the already endangered lions in Africa have died during the long droughts. Moreover, if the arctic ice keeps melting, soon polar bears will lose their habitat and die out.

Do you know what has caused the global temperatures to increase? Yes, the main is because of greenhouse effect. And do you know that if you throw the trash not in the right place it can impact with the global warming too? Yess, the pile of the trash which is not managed well will produce methane gases. As we know that methane is one of the gases of greenhouse.

Red Alert! The world has warmed

Globally averaged: the planet is about 0.75°C warmer than it was in 1860

Eleven of the last 12 years are among 12 warmest since 1850 in the global average.
